In 1986, Orchid Hotels became Asia's first hotel to earn the prestigious Ecotel® certification — a rigorous standard that assesses environmental commitment across five core pillars.

Each pillar represents a concrete area of environmental action — measured, certified, and improved upon each year.

Energy Management

We deploy solar photovoltaic systems, LED lighting across all properties, smart energy metering, and occupancy-based HVAC controls. Our energy intensity has been reduced by 40% over the past decade. BMS (Building Management Systems) continuously monitor and optimise consumption in real time.

Water Conservation

Rainwater harvesting systems, low-flow fixtures in all bathrooms, dual-flush toilets, and on-site sewage treatment plants allow us to recycle up to 60% of water consumed. Guests can also opt into our linen reuse programme, saving thousands of litres each month.

Solid Waste Management

We operate zero-waste kitchens with rigorous food waste composting, on-site biogas plants, full waste segregation at source, and partnerships with certified recyclers. Plastic single-use items were eliminated across all properties by 2022.

Environmental Commitment

Every Orchid property follows a Green Procurement Policy, sourcing local and organic produce, using eco-certified cleaning supplies, and maintaining native biodiversity gardens. We actively participate in tree plantation drives and coastal clean-up programmes.

Employee Education

Sustainability is in our DNA because our people make it so. Every Orchid team member undergoes structured eco-training upon joining and participates in quarterly sustainability workshops. Our Eco-Champions programme recognises and rewards green innovation from staff at all levels.
